WHAT IS DO JUSTICE SATURDAY?

DO JUSTICE SATURDAY is one way we could “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8). On October 14 2023, we had different community service sites across Oahu with volunteer opportunities for everyone of all ages. Mahalo to everyone who signed up to serve and to show the love of Jesus to our neighbors in tangible ways.

THE DO JUSTICE SATURDAY PROJECT SITES WE HAD FOR 2023

1) FOOD SORTING AND PACKAGING (MORNING) (The Pantry)

  • DESCRIPTION: We served as runners for walk-up and online orders from clients of The Pantry.

2) FOOD SORTING AND PACKAGING (AFTERNOON) (The Pantry)

  • DESCRIPTION: We served as runners for walk-up and online orders from clients of The Pantry.

3) BARBECUE & BOARD GAMES WITH RESIDENTS (at Hale Mauliʻola, part of the Institute for Human Services)

  • DESCRIPTION: We connected with residents of Hale Mauliʻola by hosting a morning of barbecuing and board games.

4) COMMUNITY WORK DAY AT THE LOʻI (Hoʻkuaʻaina)

  • DESCRIPTION: We joined in Ho'okua'aina's Kapalai Community Workday, where we participated in cultivating kale and working in the lo'i. This is a wetland type environment and we were physically active outside, and in the mud.

5) GREETING CARD PACKAGING AND PRAYER (Womenʻs Community Correctional Center)

  • DESCRIPTION: We gathered and assembled blank greeting cards (Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other occasions) to send to the women at the Womenʻs Community Correctional Center (WCCC) in Kailua.

6) TOILETRIES PACKAGING (Hawaii Meals on Wheels)

  • DESCRIPTION: We designed and packed goody bags with toiletries and a note of encouragement for the clients of Hawaii Meals on Wheels. We will also decorated fall-themed rolls of toilet paper.

7) YARDWORK, CLEANING, & LIGHT HOME REPAIR (Hope Center Ministries)

  • DESCRIPTION: We worked on projects like replacing doors, carpentry work to enclose a storage area (already framed out), flooring install in an 8 x 16 room, interior painting, miscellaneous plumbing, yardwork, and some cleaning.
