FOUNDATIONS SERMON SERIES

JUNE 2 TO JUNE 30, 2024

In June we pushed the pause button on Jesus’ foundational Sermon on the Mount. Instead, we devoted ourselves to a parallel foundation – the renewed and refreshed versions of First Prez’s MISSION STATEMENT and VALUES.

MISSION STATEMENT

“Joining Jesus to restore and transform one another and our world”

This answers the WHAT question for FPC. It is important to see our new Mission Statement NOT as a departure from the old language, but as a refreshing, and a renewing, and an improving, and a strengthening of what we had previously. We believe we are bringing greater clarity, focus, and power with the language we are now introducing.

VALUES

Prayer • Humility • The Grace and Truth of Jesus • Courage

What FPC tried to say originally with “Presence” is better captured and clearer with PRAYER.

HUMILITY is a carry-over from the earlier list and absorbs “Authenticity” as a required dimension of true humility.

THE GRACE AND TRUTH OF JESUS is new and forms the beating heart of our Values. What did he do, what is he doing, and what would he do in us and through us right now?

COURAGE is new as well, pushing us out into the world. We could have said “faith,” but people clearly hear “courage” as the active, risky, needing-God-in-whatever-we-do posture we aspire to in all things.

FOUNDATIONS BOOKLET

We have put together the FOUNDATIONS BOOKLET to help you (on your own or with others) go deeper in the study of our sermon series. It includes sermon discussion questions and spiritual steps of the week.
