Senior Adults
VINTAGE: Senior adults ministry
why “VINTAGE”?
Like good grapes and good wine, senior adults continue to “come of age,” and are able to inspire the younger generations. The purpose of our Senior Adults Ministry called VINTAGE is to promote and offer events and activities that equip, encourage, and nurture the spiritual, intellectual, and social growth of senior adults so that they may present a life overflowing with fruit to the Lord and for His glory.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15: 1,4,5)
Since the time of Jesus to the present day, wine growing and harvesting follow the same basic process. Vineyard owners work a cycle of tasks in different seasons (SPRING: prepare the soil. SUMMER: tie up branches, control disease and insects. AUTUMN: see all the joyous labor of the vineyard). And like vineyard owners, senior adults are also working a cycle of tasks as they adapt to physical and mental changes and challenges. They reflect on memories and milestones of past springs, summers, and autumns that have helped nurture their growth.
UPCOMING: “CHARIOTS OF FIRE” MATINEE
AUGUST 28, WedNESDAY, 10AM-2PM, FPC MAKAI ROOM
Our Vintage Ministry invites all senior adults to a matinee showing of the 1981 Oscar Award-winning film "Chariots of Fire." The movie is based on the true story of two British athletes in the 1924 Paris Olympics: Eric Liddell, who runs for the glory of God; and Harold Abrahams, who runs to overcome prejudice.
Aside from the movie, we’ll have a devotional and lunch. Suggested donation: $5
